The Author
Martin Allen is an experienced and well-respected criminal lawyer with a broad background.
First, an officer in the British Merchant Navy. Then, technical jobs in the marine and oil exploration industries across Canada, engineering work in the Arctic, and a management position in a major aerospace company. An Honours B.Sc. in economics with a second major in French, and a law degree from the University of Victoria. Articles with Smart & Williams, a top-flight criminal law firm in Vancouver, and a year as a law clerk with the judges of the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
He is the author of "Criminal Focus", a quarterly criminal law analysis newsletter for British Columbia criminal practitioners.
He opened his practice in Victoria in 1998, and handles almost exclusively criminal defence work, with an emphasis on appeals to all levels of court. He accepts private retainers and some legal aid referrals.
